New York surplus funds

The county may already be holding your money.

When a home sells at a foreclosure or tax auction for more than what was owed, the difference belongs to the former owner — not the lender. We find those New York files and recover them on contingency.

Who we are

A New York firm built for one job.

Big Apple Asset Recovery LLC is a New York company headquartered in Elmsford. We do one thing: recover surplus funds the county is already holding after a foreclosure or tax sale.

We are not a law firm and we do not buy houses. We do not guarantee an amount or a date — only the court controls those. If we can’t help, we say so and you lose nothing.

Straight answers

Asked every week.

What is surplus money?

When a New York property sells at a tax or foreclosure auction for more than what was owed, the leftover does not go to the bank. It is held by the court or county until the former owner — or their heirs — claims it.

Do I pay anything up front?

No. There is no retainer and no fee to have us look. We are paid a stated share of a recovery only if the claim succeeds.

Are you a law firm?

No. We are a New York recovery company. We do not guarantee an amount or a date — only the court controls those — and you can always file on your own instead.

What if I barely remember the details?

A phone number or email is enough to start. An address, county, or approximate year helps us find the file faster, but we work with what you have.

How do I follow my file?

Through the client portal — sign-in is your phone number plus a one-time texted code. No passwords. Your specialist opens access when your file does.

Free file review

Ready when you are.

Leave a number or an email. A specialist checks the record and tells you exactly where the file stands.
